Our entire team at DDM is humbled to have been chosen as the  2020 Honored Heroes for the Take Steps walk for the Upstate Northeastern New York Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. The walk is especially poignant this year,  as so many patients  with Crohn’s and Colitis have had to focus on their health differently. As we worked with our patients via telehealth, we cared for them in ways we had never done  before.  We all knew early on in medical school that we each wanted to pursue a career in gastroenterology, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, and become  active members in our community. But with the  COVID-19 pandemic and the need to be socially different, this year’s walk is more important than ever.

More than 3.1 million Americans have Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative Colitis. Many with inflammatory bowel diseases live in silence, afraid or embarrassed to talk about their disease. This silence often adds to the challenges in treating these conditions. However, having the support of family and friends can help patients cope  with their illnesses, which is just as important as any medical treatments that we can offer. Digestive Disease Medicine of Central New York and the Mohawk Valley Endoscopy Center has been involved with the Take Steps Walk since 2012 .  The event inspires and empowers our team and reminds us that this is a not disease that has to be treated in silence or in isolation. We are all one community, and we are proud to be able to support our patients and their families. The Take Steps walk is a  fantastic event that brings our community together in a fun, lively, and supportive setting.

Please join DDM and the Mohawk Valley Endoscopy Center,  as we walk together virtually and  safely on Sunday, October 18th 2020 . Help us support the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s efforts to raise money for vital research, new treatments, and essential patient programs by donating whatever you can.
